This is a dual purpose tester. Battery charge state: the test is performed with the load resistors connected; the gauge will accurately indicate the charge state of the battery. Regulator calibration: the test is performed with the load resistors disconnected. The gauge will show the setting of the voltage regulator and the output of the generator. It is also possible to use the instrument for checking the voltage drop in the battery when starting the engine.
